Getting to Know the"Tea Lady of Virginia"

Constance Rhodes Lue has been titled by her family, friends and acquaintances as "The Tea Lady" and very rightfully so. Seldom is one so immersed in and knowledgeable of a subject as to be able to teach, consult, plan and present the end result ....... the most perfect, proper English Tea Party possible. Connie is a native of Tidewater Virginia with a distinguished British Ancestry. She was greatly influenced by her high school teacher and friend, Julia Mountcastle Webb, to love and appreciate the beautiful, classic things in life. Connie's love for and expertise in cooking and entertaining, have perpetuated her early interests into a lifetime of searching out the elegant and gracious aspects of everyday life. She has most successfully done so.

Connie is the "Mistress of the Tea", the planner, the teacher, the consultant, the expert! She has the skills and talents to work with groups of all descriptions to promote the resurgence of beautiful tea parties.Connie's dream is to preserve the culture and refinement of the past by introducing the etiquette of the tea party to children. This dream has inspired the offering of many successful proper English teas for youngsters of all ages. It is hoped that they in turn will share their experiences by carrying this heritage into the future. Not only does Connie devote time to teaching,consulting, planning teas and tea parties, she has always given freely of her time and talents to her Civic League and Garden Club Groups, and is credited with many neighborhood improvement plans that have immensely improved area surroundings.

Credits and Accomplishments

Charter member of the American Tea Society. Founder of The Virginia Tea Society for the Historial Ferry Plantation House. Studied in Europe with the renowned Author of 6 books and Consultant to the British Tea Society, Jane Pettigrew. Teacher for the Virginia Beach City Schools Adult Learning Center on the history of tea and teas, and the planning and presentation of a proper tea. Consultant to tea room owners and prospective owners for operating an authentic Tea Room. Teacher for caterers and wedding reception coordinators for developing tea party experiences. Speaker for garden clubs, churches, civic leagues, tea rooms, etc.
